Mare-Longue Research station

Mare-Longue Research station (MRS) is located on Reunion Island, South West Indian Ocean.

Its main purpose is to provide facilities and access to unique tropical ecosystems for researchers and students interested in their study and conservation.

The three islands of Reunion, Mauritius and Rodrigues make up the Mascarene archipelago, famous for the « Dodo » land, and are part of the Madagascar Biodiversity Hotspot.

MRS site is located on the south-eastern coast at Saint-Philippe, 2 km away from the main  lowland rainforest at archipelago scale (ex-Marelongue Nature Reserve, now included in a National Park) and 11 km from recent lava flows of the Piton de La Fournaise volcano.

The building of the station was made possible thanks to EU support: FEDER 2.02.
