On November 29, 2022, OPAR was awarded the Global Atmosphere Watch Programme (GAW) label by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This label is a guarantee of the reliability, scientific interest and durability of its measurements. It joins some thirty other observatories around the world that have been awarded the label.
Its geographical location (altitude, position downwind of the trade winds, atmospheric currents, etc.) gives it unique advantages for monitoring the tropical climate of the southern hemisphere. Climatic variables are monitored continuously and over the long term: meteorological measurements, measurements of atmospheric components such as reactive trace gases, greenhouse gases (GHGs) and aerosols.
